File Schmile

I've been working on my office this month trying to get it organized and clean so that I can start the year fresh. My desk only has one mini drawer so I decided I needed some storage in there. I found this little filing cabinet at Goodwill for $5 buckaroos. Sorry to report I did not take any before's but it was typical file cabinet grey, rusty silver pulls, and so filthy I literally took it outside when I brought it home and sprayed it with the water hose. But here is how she turned out...

After thoroughly cleaning, I primed with 2 coats of spray Kilz. Then finished off with 4 coats of Krylon 'Global Blue' spray paint. The old handle size was an awkward one, so I ended up deciding on a handle that would cover the old holes but it did require me drilling new ones. The pulls are Martha Stewart from Home Depot. I love the blue with the gold.

Loves

The simple things in life that get me giddy...pick-up trucks, cowboy boots, sweet tea in mason jars, lacy-frilly dresses and a farm...

Twin Tables

I've had these 2 little tables for quite sometime and decided they finally needed some attention. I bought these at a little store here in Little Rock for cheap. I love them because they are in the same family, yet different. You have that relative right?? I also love them because they are small enough I can move them around as often as I want and they go anywhere.

I used 'Interesting Aqua' Sherwin Williams on them. Then topped off with a coat of Annie Sloan's clear wax.

Gallery Wall Completed

I shared in an earlier post the start of my gallery wall. It changed quite a bit by the time I was finished. But it's DONE....well sort of. I want to be able to add and take away if i want over time so I tried not to make it perfect with every picture the same distance, etc. That just wasn't the look I was going for. I'm not crazy about how these pics turned out but this wall was very difficult to photograph because the chandelier is in the way and I don't have much light at all in my dining room
All the items I chose were meaningful so I thought I would share them individually.
Frame was a yard sale find I painted and antlers were free from my man.
Vacationing in Barbados...my fav vacation location yet!
More Barbados..
My last name is Abbey so I've always loved the Beatles 'Abbey Road' stuff. I ordered the print off of Etsy and the frame was another yard sale find I painted.

Cabo pic I took. Frame is a Michael's find for cheap.

I love the Rock so this pic had to make the wall.

Frame was a yard sale find that I painted and letter is a hobby lobby special.

Southern Spring Wedding

One of my all-time besties Ginny had the most beautiful wedding back in the spring which I was so lucky to be a part of. I wanted to share some of the gorgeous details from the event. It was an outdoor evening wedding in Little Rock, AR where we live...weather couldn't be more perfect which was a result of Ginny's mother praying everyday for months prior. The wedding was on the day of the Kentucky Derby which is a big deal in the South so they served Mint Juleps and told guests to dress like they were going to the Derby. Think Southern, Rustic, Charming, Country Romantic and that pretty much sums it up.
Their initials carved in the tree. They actually kept this as a keepsake too...genius idea.

Puffy heart-love the gray color of our brides-maid dresses. That's me second from left!
 Mason jars and burlap...enuf said.
Flower girls in tutu's....yes please! Have you ever seen anything so adorable?!? That's Miss Molly Montgomery. 4 others adorning tutu's not pictured. All under the age of 4...brave bride!

The blushing bride with her daddy

What's a reception without Hot Dog Mike? He's famous for a late night treat in Little Rock!
Introducing Mr. and Mrs. John Porter!
Cowboy boots that the bride herself wore. That's my girl!
Congratulations Ginny and John!

My Fitness Pal

It was back to the gym this week for me and long overdue!! I am making a very strong effort to work out  daily and eat healthier. Not just because it's the 'New Year' but because I want to change my lifestyle so that I can feel better and look better....which let's be honest when you look better you feel better. Anywho....I'm leaning on a pal for some help.

My Fitness Pal to be exact. Where I always seem to fail is accountability. This little devil holds you accountable. It's so easy to use. You basically, put in your height and weight and your target weight and it calculates how many calories you should eat per day. You enter your food intake and it keeps track of your calories and how many you have left in the day to eat. The bonus is when you exercise and add your cardio on there it gives you more calories that you can eat for that day or they carry over. It's pretty genius actually. Don't worry if you don't have any iphone...i think this app is available on all the phones with apps.

Wish me luck!

Fancy is my name!

I enjoyed the holidays and the time off but it feels good to get back in a routine! And I've been dying to blog about my latest project. I made 2 great scores at Goodwill right around Christmas. I've been working on transforming one of them on my time off. Check out the brutal before:
Sorry took this photo with my iphone so it's not the best. My initial plan with this one was to remove those pulls, put one coat of Annie Sloan's Old White followed by a coat of 'Interesting Aqua'-Sherwin Williams. Then I was going to heavily distress making some of the white show through with some of the wood.
BUT...when I started painting the aqua over the white I loved the contrast of the 2 colors together and i liked the detail of this piece being a different color so it stands out more. So here is the direction it took....

I finished it off with 2 knobs from Hobby Lobby and a coat of Annie's Sloan's clear wax. I love the direction the piece took and the final result. The best part I only have $14 in the whole piece. The table was $6 and the knobs were on sale for $3 each. I already had all the paint and the wax.
