Post-Thanksgiving FUN

Well the Hogs couldn't even get close to LSU in the second half but we were with great friends, gorgeous weather and had a great time anyway. 

The stadium was absolutely packed and if you have never been to death valley it can be a little overwhelming with almost all LSU fans. But the fans were really welcoming to us and I'm sure as tradition has it we will be back in 2 years.

Antique Armoire

I've gotten a few questions on this piece in my living room that was seen on some other pics that i posted. I'm sad to say that I have no before pics to show. This was actually the first piece of furniture I ever painted and didn't realize the importance of before pics! This was an antique piece that i was lucky enough to get from my dad when he moved for free. It was plain ole dark wood when I took possession. Since my floors are so dark it was a no brainer that if she was coming inside the house she had to get some paint on her.

AFTER

I discovered the color on a cupboard by Dreamy Whites. There isn't an exact name for the paint color but she was kind enough to share the formula for it and she had it mixed at Benjamin Moore. So I took that formula in hand to Benjamin Moore and had it reproduced. Formula is as follows:

Pastel Base~1B

1 1/2 oy

5 bk

2 bb

7 tg

2 wh

I primed it first because I had no intentions of distressing it. Priming can make distressing more difficult. Then followed with a few coats of the paint. I wanted the detail to stand out so after the paint dried, I glazed it with Ralph Lauren glaze with black tint. Just tell the paint store to add some black to the can of glaze. I also took off the original knobs and put some crystal ones in their place.

Triumph and Tragedy in AR

Thanks to the win over MS State on Saturday and all of the upsets that took place we made our way up to #3 in the BCS. We are some proud HOG fans right now! But this doesn't go without recognizing a huge loss to the Razorback nation Sunday morning when we lost one of our own. Prayers go out to Garrett Uekman's family and the entire Razorback program.

Later this week, the HOGS will get a chance to play their hearts out for a shot to go to the SEC championship and possibly the National Championship game at least in one of several scenarios. 

This will be a game for the team, the fans and most of all Garrett Uekman. I'm honored to be one of the many Razorback fans that will be in the stands this Friday at Tiger Stadium cheering on the HOGS til the very last play.

Kitchen Details

I've had several questions about my kitchen colors since Better After featured it earlier this week. 

One thing I did not splurge on in this kitchen was cabinets. I got bids from cabinet stores on pre-fab cabinets that were already painted white and also custom cabinet makers. They were all well out of my budget and i felt that with paint, I could transform any cabinets to get the look I was going for. I ended up finding these cabinets at a local home-store a few notches down from your Home Depot or Lowes for very cheap. They weren't necessarily paint grade cabinets because they were oak. So I had my contractors sand and paint, sand and paint, sand and paint. The color of the cabinets, trim and crown moulding is 

Benjamin Moore White Dove.

They sprayed several light coats but wound up finishing off with a brush. The kitchen is such a small space that it made spraying in there difficult.

The outside door and the pantry door are Martha Stewart Tidewater.

I had seen this color on another blog and glad I did because the swatch is deceiving. It almost looks like a muted green on the swatch. But on the doors it's the most perfect color of ocean blue-green. 

Granite is Giallo Ornamental.

Wall color is Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige.

To Paint or Not to Paint?!?

I need some help on this one. There is a small portion of exposed brick in my living area. This used to be part of the outside of the home before they added on the living room some years ago. I've been considering painting it white since I bought the house a few years ago because the brick color doesn't really fit into my cottage color scheme I'm trying to achieve but I haven't quite been able to pull the trigger. I think I'm afraid of messing it up and it looking terrible. Take a look and give me some feedback. Keep in mind that I'm going to paint all of my walls antique white in the near future and I'm planning to change out the stair railing at some point as well...just not sure quite what yet. 

Paint or leave it alone?
